About Setu

India's economic infrastructure needs a complete overhaul. Today our digital economy rides on rickety monolithic systems built in the mid-90s. It takes months to do a simple bank integration and launch a fintech product. This inefficiency cannot continue. If our economy has to grow, we need killer API infrastructure for financial services that rivals the likes of Stripe, and AWS. At Setu, we are fixing this for good, by abstracting away the complexity of working with legacy financial infrastructure and replacing it with a developer platform that offers clean, high-performance API bundles to embed finance into any application. So that developers can do what they do best, build amazing products that improve people's lives.

What we do

We are a micro-startup within Setu, owning the BBPS Stack — powering bill payments across leading banks and fintechs including (but not limited to) CRED, Axis Bank, Canara Bank, Fold, and INDMoney. Every month, transactions worth around ₹70,000 crore flow through our systems. We build for scale, reliability, and trust, ensuring that millions of customers experience seamless bill payments across India.

What you'll do

This isn't just another backend role — we're looking for engineers who are excited to make a measurable impact on cost efficiency and system performance while building resilient, scalable systems. Design, build, and maintain backend services that power high-scale, low-latency payment systems. Take end-to-end ownership of problem statements — from architecture and implementation to rollout and monitoring. Continuously optimize performance and infrastructure costs, identifying opportunities to make our systems faster and leaner. Collaborate with product, frontend, and infra teams to deliver reliable and scalable solutions. Strengthen system observability, fault tolerance, and scalability through metrics, tracing, and alerting. Follow and champion engineering best practices — testing, documentation, code reviews, and CI/CD automation.

What we're looking for

Strong hands-on experience with Golang and related backend technologies. Solid understanding of relational databases (PostgreSQL), distributed systems, concurrency, and system design. Experience in scaling backend systems or cost optimization at high scale. Familiarity with AWS and observability tooling (Grafana, Prometheus, ClickHouse, etc.). Demonstrated ownership mindset — ability to take initiatives from concept to production. Passion for clean, maintainable, and efficient code.
