DiDi's autonomous driving division was established in 2016 and became an independent company in August 2019, focused on Level 4 autonomous driving technology to make transportation safer and more efficient through shared-mobility fleet integration (robotaxis). Headquartered in Beijing with U.S. R&D operations in the San Francisco Bay Area, it's led by co-founder and CEO Zhang Bo and backed by investors including SoftBank Vision Fund 2, GAC Capital, and Valeo, having raised over $1.5B across multiple rounds including a 2-billion-yuan Series D in October 2025.
